City seeks retailer for 1132 Oak St. facility

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Capital Improvements Management Office is accepting proposals for a retail tenant for its 1132 Oak St. mixed-use facility.

The 1,744-square-foot retail space, located at street level facing Oak Street in the George E. Wolf parking facility at 12th and Oak streets, is poised to join some of downtown’s most successful retail areas. Current tenants of the Oak Street facility include two restaurants and a fitness facility, bringing a wide range of potential patrons to the space. The space is located across the street from Ilus W. Davis Park and near two MAX bus stops.

“In addition to being at the crossroads of the city’s government district and a booming residential area, our Oak Street facility is within walking distance of the future Sprint Center and the Power and Light entertainment district,” said Eric Bosch, manager of the Architectural Services Section in CIMO. “It’s a prime location.”

Lessees are required to submit a proposal to the City that includes a description of the proposed business, an operational schedule and a narrative proposal featuring a business plan.

“We’re trying to make sure that our partner at 1132 Oak fits the area and has the tools to succeed,” Bosch said. “Our process ensures that any business in that space has an eye toward the future and will play a principal role in a revitalized downtown Kansas City.”

Proposals are being accepted until 5 p.m. on March 24 and should be addressed to: Eric Bosch, manager of the Architectural Services Section in the Capital Improvements Management Office, City Hall, 17th floor, 414 E. 12th St., Kansas City, MO 64106-2798.

For more information about the request for proposal process, visit the City’s Web site (www.kcmo.org); call Sean Demory, communications specialist in the Capital Improvements Management Office, (816) 513-0059; or send a message via e-mail to kansascityworks@kcmo.org.
