Landscaping expert cultivates urban forestry discussion

Landscape architects and interested citizens will learn how to make Kansas City green at an upcoming presentation.

Fifty-Year Streetscapes – Structural Soils vs. Structural Sidewalks will be presented Thursday, June 8 at noon at the Gladys Feld Helzberg Auditorium in the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St. It is being hosted by the City of Kansas City, Mo., the Downtown Council and BNIM Architects.

James Urban, plant editor for "Landscape Architecture" magazine, will discuss urban arboriculture and soils, focusing on the growing field of soils analysis and design. Urban, a fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architecture and the proprietor of Urban Trees + Soils, specializes in urban forestry, horticultural design and site-specific landscape architecture. His firm’s current work includes consultancy on the World Trade Center Memorial, the new Trump Tower in Chicago and Kansas City’s 12th Street streetscape project.
