City to break ground on Northeast streetscape project

The Capital Improvements Management Office and the City of Kansas City, Mo., Parks and Recreation Department will hold a groundbreaking ceremony tomorrow to mark the start of construction for the St. John Avenue corridor streetscape improvement project.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. on the north side of Budd Park at St. John and Denver avenues.

The project will focus on the section of St. John Avenue from North Brighton Avenue to North Hardesty Avenue along Budd Park. Planned improvements include widened sidewalks, new curbs and light poles. The project’s design was completed by Brian Clark + Associates and is being constructed by Mega Industries.

City officials, including Councilwoman Deb Hermann, 1st District at large, and Councilman Bill Skaggs, 1st District, will attend the ceremony along with local residents. The St. John Avenue corridor streetscape is one of a series of capital improvement projects in Kansas City’s historic Northeast district.
