FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Aug. 25, 2006

Portion of 13th Street to close Monday

Thirteenth Street from Walnut Street to Grand Boulevard will close Monday, Aug. 28 at 9 a.m. due to street replacement for the new Power & Light Entertainment District. This closure will remain in effect until mid-October.

This block is being paved in time for the October opening of the new parking garage located between Main Street and Grand Boulevard, and just east of the new H&R Block World Headquarters at 1300 Main St.

The street replacement will be done in phases to maintain access to the Town Pavilion parking garage located between 12th and 13th streets on Walnut Street. Drivers are urged to use either the Grand Boulevard or 12th Street entrances for this garage. The exit located on 13th Street will remain open only for parking garage personnel and delivery vehicles.

This street closure also will limit access to the entrance of the H&R Block parking garage. Those wishing to access the H&R Block parking garage are urged to use one of the following suggested detours during the closure:

From the north – From 12th Street, travel south on Walnut Street, east on 13th Street to Main Street, then south on Main Street to the parking garage entrance

From the south – Travel north on Main Street to the parking garage entrance.

All street construction and repair work is weather permitting. A map highlighting these street closures is available at www.kcmo.org/cimo.nsf/web/dtconst.

Individuals are urged to stay alert and aware of hazardous conditions while traveling through these construction areas. Construction site conditions can change rapidly, and previously clear areas may become hazardous by the movement of construction equipment or materials. While in effect, posted restrictions regarding site, street and lane closures must be followed at all times and should not be disregarded.
