North Satellite Service Center ready for winter weather

Construction of the North Satellite Service Center located at the intersection of Highway 169 and N.E. Cookingham Road is now complete.

This facility will make it easier for the City of Kansas City Mo., Public Works Department to distribute salt to roads and bridges in the growing northland during inclement weather. The primary purpose of the North Satellite Service Center is to provide a location for salt storage and distribution.

"The North Satellite Service Center will play an important role in our ongoing effort to achieve productivity improvements that yield improvements in service," said Stan Harris, director of the Public Works Department. "This will make a significant difference in our northland operations."

The project has been managed through the City's Capital Improvements Management Office. The project cost approximately $1.4 million and was funded by general obligation bonds.

"Before this center was built, Public Works crews had to travel several miles often through ice and snow to get the salt they needed to melt the ice on the roads," said Ingrid Bunn, project manager in the Capital Improvements Management Office. "This new facility will improve not only convenience but also safety for the crews delivering salt to surrounding streets in the northland."
