FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Nov. 22, 2006
Grand Boulevard closed to pedestrian traffic
Grand Boulevard from 13th Street to South Truman Road is closed to pedestrian traffic until January 2007. No vehicular traffic is impacted by this closure on Grand Boulevard.
The pedestrian walkway was closed Monday, Nov. 20 to accommodate work for the Power & Light District. While the Grand Boulevard pedestrian walkway is closed, pedestrian traffic will be detoured to Walnut Street, which is one block west of Grand Boulevard.
The work includes the erection of structural steel, and the installation of a crane and out riggers for the retail development on Block 126, which is directly west of Grand Boulevard. This work is being performed by J.E. Dunn for the Cordish Company, the developer of the Power & Light District.
Grand Boulevard remains restricted to one northbound lane and one southbound lane of motorist traffic. Previously, pedestrian access was allowed on the west side of Grand Boulevard.
Drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are reminded to use caution in areas adjacent to active construction sites. Conditions in these areas can change rapidly, which may expose people to unexpected dangerous situations.
All street construction and repair work is weather permitting. A map highlighting downtown street closures is available at www.kcmo.org/cimo.nsf/web/dtconst.
