The Plaza Tennis Center sits next to the Country Club Plaza, the Midwest's oldest outdoor shopping area featuring a number of unique shops, restaurants, boutiques and Spanish architecture. The center has received local, regional and national awards since its grand opening in 1996.
In 1998, the United States Tennis Association named the center a USTA National Outstanding Public Tennis Facility.
In 2005, the Plaza Tennis Center was named PTR Public Facility of the Year by the United States Professional Tennis Registry. Scott Hanover, general manager, is a certified USPTR member. With members in 123 countries, PTR's Mission is to educate, certify and service tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
Hanover was named a top ten league director again in 2007 for World Team Tennis and was the 2004 winner of the WTT's “Delaine Mast Award," awarded to league directors who contribute to the growth of tennis and WTT, as well as being a leader and role model in the local tennis community.
The Plaza Tennis Center was recognized as one of the top 50 Tennis Welcome Centers in the country in 2007. More information.
Over the years, the center has received honors, including numerous USTA section and district tournament and event of the year awards (including 2007 Tournament of the Year for the USTA-Missouri Valley Futures). Other awards include PITCH Magazine's "Best Place to Find Love," as well as its staff has been recognized for Distinguished Service, Outstanding Officiating, Community Service, Outstanding Clinician and more.
